Severe dandruff
treatment
What is severe
dandruff?
Dandruff is
considered severe when the shedding of dead skin cells of
scalp, is too prolific and too frequent. Routine cleansing of
hair by a normal shampoo, keeps the dandruff away but when it
is a matter of severe dandruff treatment,
things are not that simple. Use of medicated shampoos is the
only way out and that too is not a ‘fit for all’ solution.
Depending upon the type and severity of dandruff, different
medicated shampoos suit different people. Active ingredients
used in most of the shampoos for severe dandruff
treatment include; Selenium sulphide(
Selsun),Ketoconazole (Nizoral),Zinc Pyrithione ( Head &
Shoulder), Salicylic Acid ( sebcur) and Tar as in
T-Gel.
Severe
dandruff treatment
Visual
examination of the combing left over, gives a fair idea of the
nature and gravity of the dandruff but to say that it is
‘severe’ is not enough. To chase the progress in a systematic
order, it is important to know how severe the severe is, and
for that, some methods have been devised by the related
professionals. One such method requires combing and collecting
all the falling flakes on a black paper sheet. Make a mental
note of the worst case scenario and the best position ever
noted by you. Compare the current observation and rate it at a
ten point scale. Another method utilizes, pressing a purpose
made adhesive strip against the parted hair .so that he strip
touches the scalp too and not only the hair. Adhesion of the
flakes is the compared against the standard strip showing the
concentration of flakes in graded order. The test strip is read
at the most matching position of the standard strip. Regular
testing is beneficial because, initially it helps you
benchmarking, and in the later stages helps progress
chasing.

How
to start severe dandruff treatment?
There is no
fit for all severe dandruff remedy; therefore the condition
needs to be approached individually. A few steps are common for
all and the foremost, among them is the personal dandruff
benchmarking, to be aware of the true position. Next to it is
thorough cleansing of hair with any non medicated shampoo and
to reassess the flaking severity. After this step onwards,
individual treatment starts and it is advisable to always start
with the mildest medicated shampoo and gradually shift to the
next stronger medicated shampoo. The process of using medicated
shampoo on alternate days, followed by non invasive testing of
flakes, has to be continued till your self assessment reveals
that the severity of flaking has reduced to the normal level in
terms of concentration, frequency and recurrence time. Normal
skin too sheds the dead skin cells and normally it takes not
less than 28 days for the replacement of skin cells, while in
case of severe dandruff; the process starts as early as seven
days. Pert Plus; containing Zinc Pyrithione, Sebcur, Selsun,
T-Gel and Nizarole may be tried to find out what suits you
most. Nizoral is considered the best treatment for severe
dandruff.
