 Alopecia areata barbae

Having to deal with hair loss is quite frustrating. Hair loss might occur gradually such that you end up having thinning hair while there are times when an individual suffers from a medical condition that leads to complete hair loss in patches.

This condition is usually referred to as alopecia areata. This type of hair loss may decide to affect the face and when it affects the beard, it is referred to as alopecia areata barbaeand luckily for women it only appears in men since they only have beards.

Cause of alopecia areata

The disease is usually caused by a disfunctioning of the body’s immune system. What usually happens is that due to the autoimmunity, various parts of the body are mistakenly attacked by the immune system in the body and in this case the hair follicles are attacked which results to the disruption of normal hair growth thus resulting to a variation of thealopecia areata disease that affects the beard otherwise called alopecia areata barbae. It would be quite frustrating to have both hair losses on the head and on the face.

Treatment of alopecia areata barbae

Since doctors have not yet come up with a definitive cure for alopecia areatawhich is the main classification of the disease, it also means that there is non definitive treatment for alopecia areata barbae. This should not worry you as there is always a solution to everything no matter how minimal.

  • If you were used to wearing your beard, the first thing would be to clean shave it. This way, it would not be easily noticed and it would also help you to determine the pattern with which the disease is occurring for effective treatment.

  • Corticosteroid is the major mode of treatment for the disease. Injections are made below the epidermis of the affected area on a monthly basis and this is when the condition is not all that serious.

  • When the condition gets a little bit more severe, then the corticosteroids are administered in form of pills where noticeable improvements occur within four weeks. As compared to the injections where the side effects are only localized pain as well as skin atrophy which are easily reversible, pills have much severe side effects such as migraines, high blood pressure and even diabetes. These methods are used to treatalopecia areata barbaedepending with the severity of the disease.
